How You Can Avoid New Age Guilt Sabotaging Your Self Esteem

Owing mostly to the proliferation of the 'self help' genre ... books ... seminars
... chat shows ... a relatively new phenomena is plaguing many people's consciousness.

My colleagues and I call it 'New Age Guilt'.

And what is worse ... it can seriously devastate self esteem and eat into our
feelings of confidence
.

I know, I know, you want to know if you've 'got' it ... and whether you
have or not, how you should be avoiding it.

And this is precisely my point.

The world of marketing has managed to convince us that we are vulnerable to just
about any affliction - or that without some 'product' (that they of course happen
to be marketing), we are somehow not completely fulfilled. (Hey I'm a marketer
too ... don't think I don't know the tricks! Of course how you use them for good
in the world is the real key to positive karma.)

So even as I tell you that you may be suffering from 'New Age Guilt', you might
already be thinking about the terrible consequences this could have on your life/family/marriage/relationships/finances.Simply
because we have been conditioned to think that way.

OK so far ... now let's take the case of someone who is having a little trouble
in life. Not feeling too good about themselves or their present situation, they
look for help. Self help perhaps.

And after a little research - maybe in the local bookstore, on the 'net, watching
a little Oprah, they come to the conclusion that they 'have' low self esteem.

Now instead of the relief you think they might feel at finding the supposed cause
to their problem, things start to go downhill from here. The first onset of New
Age Guilt begins to creep in.

Because now, they research a little further still and are variously told by experts
that self esteem is largely self produced. Hmmm, needs a little more research
... um, exactly how is it 'self produced'?

Well you see, "thought is creative" (true). "And from our thoughts spring our
reality" (hmmm, but do go on ...)."So our current reality is created by our own
selves" (It is? Wow.). "And you need to 'take responsibility' for what you have
created" (You what? Are you saying I did this to myself?).

"In fact, you created this mess ... so you better shape up and work out what 'baggage'
you must be carrying; then once you clear it out, everything will be fine".

Oh no. It's all my fault. I should have known it was all my fault. I created this
mess. I'm not really a very good person, I made everything bad around me and what's
worse I don't even know how I did it. I'm awful. What am I going to do? I don't
feel good, I've got low self esteem and I've just found out it's all my own fault.

Inspiring isn't it?

Yet I've personally known people who have totally taken this on board as 'the
truth' and then use it to beat themselves up even further.

"OH NO, YOU'RE MAKING IT WORSE!", I silently yell to them, because if I point
out they've taken on a flawed belief (That "I am responsible for everything around
me"), they'll feel EVEN WORSE!

But it does make ones life as a coach or counselor somewhat difficult.

Because to first work with low self esteem - and indeed low self confidence -
one needs to empower the person to find some light at the end of the tunnel, to
open their own door just a crack and to like what they see inside ... and
not the opposite!

So how to do this?

Well I believe in two key approaches.

Approach No.1

I learned this from a self esteem colleague, Jack Canfield (perhaps better known
for his 'Chicken Soup For The Soul' series).

Jack says: "Stuff Happens"

"But it's how you RESPOND to it that matters."

Who cares who 'created it', whose 'baggage' it is, whether it means I am a 'good'
or 'bad' person.

Find a way to take action and respond and you'll feel a whole lot better.

Swim around in the agony of your guilt about creating it and you'll feel a whole
lot worse. New Age Guilt. A whole self help industry is built on it.

Approach No.2

The second is to re-condition yourself to believe that the way you are right now
is totally OK.

THERE IS NOTHING 'WRONG' WITH YOU!

We all need to accept that everything we say and do is based upon the fact that
we are doing the best we can with what we know. It's all you can ever
do.

Do not underestimate the power of affirmations.

The next time you find yourself being drawn into feeling unworthy or low in confidence
because you might have some new-fangled 'syndrome' or are lacking in some vital
product, say to yourself:

"I am perfect the way I am right now."

"I accept myself the way I am right now."

"At any given moment, I am doing the best I can."

Focus on your own continued improvement.

What skills can you learn to grow, develop and maximize your range of positive
emotions and positive thoughts?

THAT is how to raise self esteem.

Now go and do something to feel good. Call someone, kiss someone, make someone's
day.

Have a great day!

Putting God On Trial

Self Help For the Self Employed

So much for Mr. Key Executive and his forerunner, Mr. Young Executive. As employees of Corporation Americana, their occupations offer them a unique and negotiable source of estate building. Yet not everyone climbs a corporate ladder, nor has the opportunity or inclination to do so.

For those reasons we want to introduce another character into the drama, a professional woman who is nobody's employee. Her name is Ms. Doctor, the young physician who nets $80,000 a year from her new practice. She has no compensation package and no negotiated benefits, no company to give her any of these niceties. Where are the estate-building opportunities in her occupation? Who is going to help her?

This, in a nutshell, is the situation of some ten million citizens of this country-all the doctors, lawyers, dentists, accountants, architects, engineers, writers, artists, and actors, other independent professionals, and along with them the independent businesspersons: the sole owners or partners of businesses, large or small, the entrepreneurs. These are the self-employed. They range from the actress who commands $100,000 for a single performance and the individual business owner who grosses a million per year, to the corner grocery store operator who nets only $35,000, or the writer who makes $60,000 in a good year, half of that in a bad one, and the Web page designer who has seen his business boom in the last few years, and expects it to keep on growing.

There are no ready-made pension plans, deferred compensation arrangements, or profit-sharing funds for them. They can put up to $3,000 a year into an IRA or $6,000 where there's a nonworking spouse and they file a joint return. (If neither of them participates in a qualified retirement plan they may make deductible IRA contributions. However, if they are active participants in a retirement plan, the $3,000 IRA deduction limit per person is phased out for single taxpayers with income over $45,000 in 2004; $50,000 in 2005 and thereafter. The phase-out income threshold for married taxpayers is $65,000 in 2004; $70,000 in 2005; $75,000 in 2006; $80,000 in 2007 and thereafter.) Unlike the rest of their fellow citizens, their occupations do not automatically provide them with substantial built-in tax shelters. They are compensated as well as or sometimes better than the corporate employee. But since all of this compensation is in the form of income, it is subject to tax.

The heart of their dilemma is in the very word that describes their economic situation: self-employed. Our tax laws were set up originally to benefit the employee, the person who works for someone else. Large though their numbers are, the self-employed used to be an economic anachronism in our economy.

Today there are a variety of opportunities for the self-employed to establish tax-favored savings plans for retirement. The fence that once separated the tax-sheltered employee from the nonsheltered self-employed person is no longer an issue. Over the years it has been opened more and more, until the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982 gave the self-employed the opportunity to provide themselves with most of the same employee benefits that their corporate counterparts enjoy. Since then many changes in the tax law and many more retirement planning opportunities have been added.

"Self-help" is still the concept, however. More than large corporation employees, the self-employed have to take the initiative and put together their own compensation packages, and have to know about and utilize the various opportunities available to them for building funds for retirement and for building an estate.

Primal Leadership - A Book Summary

Primal leadership takes center stage in this book. This concept goes beyond the set of conventional competencies on the making of a leader. Beyond bottom line figures, this book takes a leap forward with the concept of primal leadership through a keen and in-depth understanding of emotional intelligence and its link to leading and building emotionally intelligent organizations.

The authors explore the idea of leadership as an emotional
function. They propose that the fundamental task of a leader is to create resonance at work, thereby unleashing positive traits and attributes in people. Emotionally intelligent leaders bring organizational success to the fore because they inspire, motivate and foster commitment in people.

Harness the power of primal leadership in this book and bring out the emotionally intelligent leader in you.

Primal Dimension of Leadership

The use of emotion in leadership functions is a primal task that sets leaders apart. Great leaders move people by channeling emotions in the right direction, whether it is in formulating corporate strategy in the boardroom or a series of action items in the shop floor.

Resonance Effect

The positive channeling of emotions that empowers people to be top performers is called resonance. The culture of resonance brings out the best in people. On the other hand, when leaders negatively drive emotions dissonance is created. Dissonance is not conducive to harmonious working relationships as it can undermine peoples potentials.

Key to Primal Leadership

Emotional intelligence is the foundation of making primal
leadership work. An emotionally intelligent leader knows how to handle himself and his relationship with the people he works with in order to drive up performance.

Good Moods, Good Work

A good mood is essential for a team to function effectively. It is crucial for a leader to foster positive working relationships because emotional conflicts in a group can hamper a teams performance.

A study of CEOs from Fortune 500 companies revealed that
positive overall mood of top management people leads to better cooperation and better business performance. This argument takes the view that it is top management that creates the conditions for workers to work well.

Resonant Leader

For emotionally intelligent leaders, resonance comes naturally in their dealings with people. Their actions reinforce synchrony within their team and within the organization. The strength of an emotionally resonant leader lies in the emotional bond he forms which allows people to collaborate with each other even in the face of change and uncertainty.

Four Dimensions of Emotional Intelligence

The creation of resonance is a hallmark of primal leadership that can only be fostered by emotionally intelligent leaders. For a leader to promote prime resonance in a group, it is important to understand the four EI competencies. Interestingly, these competencies are not innately inherent but are learned abilities. According to research, an effective leader typically demonstrates at least one competence among
the four dimensions.

1. Self-Awareness

2. Self-Management

3. Social Awareness

4. Relationship Management

Approaches to Leadership in a Nutshell

1. Visionary

2. Coaching

3. Affiliative

4. Democratic

5. Pacesetting

6. Commanding

The Five Discoveries of Self-Directed Learning

1. First Discovery: My ideal self Who do I want to be?

2. Second Discovery: My real self Who am I? What are my strengths and gaps?

3. Third Discovery: My learning agenda How can I build on my strengths while reducing my gaps?

4. Fourth Discovery: Experimenting with and practicing new behaviors, thoughts, and feelings to the point of mastery.

5. Fifth Discovery: Developing supportive and trusting
relationships that make change possible.

Final Notes

Primal leadership is anchored on emotions. These emotions have underlying neurological explanations to them such as the open loop system. Thus, a leader must work hard to obtain emotional intelligence competencies that will make him a resonant leader
because resonance is the key to primal leadership.

A resonant leader builds a culture of resonance by emonstrating emotionally intelligent abilities that permeate throughout the organization. A resonant leader aims to live a resonant life for him and his people in order to make resonant work. It is this kind of work that builds an emotionally intelligent
organization a kind of organization that can survive the changing business climate because it has built-in processes that can sustain change.

Law of Attraction - A First Stage of Awakening

Using the Law of Attraction is a process of raising our consciousness. Most people tend to stay stuck at the victim stage--blaming others, parents, the government or something for the way their life sucks. Since we have been programmed since forever with this attitude, our beliefs are such that this is the way life is, and there's nothing to be done about it. Actually there is, but it takes work and many are not willing to do the work necessary to get out of the victim stage. They would rather stay with the misery that is familiar than to seek unknown success.

The work involved in raising our consciousness above the level of victim is all about accepting responsibility for our own thoughts. It takes great effort and determination to stand guard over our thoughts and change the negative ones or just decide to think only positive thoughts.

Now I know you think that positive thinking doesn't always work. You're right! Positive thinking alone does not make the law of attraction work properly, but it is the foundation upon which it is built.

We can choose to think any thought we want. When we realize that our thoughts are energy and have power to create more of what we're thinking about, we begin to see the value of eliminating the criticism of others, the complaining that life isn't the way we want, and the negative thoughts we have about what is going on in our lives. This only happens when we decide to accept responsibility for everything that happens to us.

It takes awhile to accept total responsibility, but as we remember that what we said or did or thought is what caused such and such to happen, we will begin to believe it. A victim will argue with this thought, that there is no way one could cause the experience taking place. THAT is the thought that must be transformed. Just realize that this is the way the Universe was set up, it's a universal law that our thoughts create our reality. The only way out, is to believe that and accept total responsibility for your thoughts.

Just open your mind to that possibility--that your thoughts create your reality. In the beginning you won't remember it very often, but determination and believing that it is true will bring it to your conscious mind more often and you will slowly begin raising your consciousness. Sure, you'll forget often, we all do, but when things aren't going well, and you aren't feeling great, realize that you've forgotten that your thoughts are creating what is going on in your life.

Raising the level of the energy of your thoughts takes forgiveness for having thought that way, and forgiving yourself for forgetting and loving yourself despite your mistake. Love, appreciation and gratitude have very high frequency energy levels, and science has proven that an energy of low frequency bombarded by one of higher frequency will raise the lower one.

If you are interested in the process of the Law of Attraction, then you are raising yourself out of this first stage of awakening. You no longer want to be a victim of circumstances. You don't want to be tossed by the winds of fate. You want to be more in control of your life, and that is very possible. This is knowing the principles of the Law of Attraction. To learn more, you can download a free ebook, 10 Critical Mistakes Using the Law of Attraction and How to Correct Them.

Tips For Healthy Kid Habits

No longer are diabetes and obesity a problem just for grown-ups. More and more children are being affected by these life changing conditions as well. As parents there is a ton that we can do to help our children learn how to be healthy and LOVE doing it. Following are some tips on how to do just that.

1. Start young. Just because they are little, don't be afraid to introduce healthy moving and eating. It is way easier to make these kinds of habits when they are young. As they get older it gets harder. It isn't impossible to help teenagers form good habits, but it definitely takes a lot more work, education, patience and persistence.

2. Turn off the electronics. Limit the exposure to these kinds of activities to no more than an hour a day. It may have been a while, but without the distraction of all of the electronics, kids do learn how to play "kid games" again. It will make a huge difference in the activity level of everyone in the house.

3. Find an activity you like to do as a family. Maybe you like to ski. Take the kids with you. Try a weekly habit of walking a local trail or bike path together. Find kid friendly events to go to together. Our family likes to find a fun run each month to participate in as a family. We like to look for ones that have shorter distances that the younger kids can do as well. It's a lot of fun!

4. Try new recipes. Expose your children to new recipes frequently. Children, as well as adults, are creatures of habit. We like the same old foods over and over again. It's comforting. It can be a struggle to get kids to eat new things, but if you offer new things often enough, they will get used to trying new things and won't fight you as much. I try to find a couple of new recipes each week to serve to my family. It takes patience, but eventually you will find some things that are healthy substitutions for your family's unhealthy favorites that you kids and spouse will actually eat.

5. Be an example. This is the big one. Your kids watch you and do what you do even if they don't want to. If you are trying to learn and grow and be healthy, they will see that and it WILL make an impression.

Want To Control Your Thoughts?

Do you think that your thoughts can rule you? If your answer is YES then you are in the right path. Thoughts play an important role in our life. Our thoughts can be so influencing that we can even heal ailments with just only thoughts. Most of us know this. Also we can make things happen in the way you want them with your thoughts. With your thoughts you can do both good and bad. You may wonder how, just keep reading further.

Thoughts are broadly classified as Positive and Negative thoughts. As the name conveys, positive thoughts are the ones that we will have to give more importance as they do more good than the negative thoughts. There is never a moment a person is not thinking. Most of the time, we are carried away by our thoughts. And most of our thoughts are influenced by people around us.

First of all we must watch our thoughts. Just observe them cautiously. Of course it is difficult the first time. But, you know practice makes a man perfect! You will be able to master this art in no time, if you practice it regularly. Now, after watching them, the next step is to identify them. You can easily find out if it is a Positive or a negative thought. A negative thought is not only those which are bad for us but also the thoughts which will affect others are considered to be negative thoughts. After categorising, our major step will be to control the negative and replace them with the positive thoughts. This is not as easy as we say.

We have to replace the negative thoughts with our positive ones immediately whenever we find them taking control. Longer intervals for this replacement will weaken the positive thoughts and hence the effect will be less. When a negative thought comes and controls? Its origin is from the external forces. Majority of them is from the place and the people. They influence our thoughts and thus affect us. But we need not worry for this because; our thoughts will get influenced only to the extent we allow them. So its very easy for us now. We must be strong and must not allow our thoughts to get influenced. For this we need to practice.

For example, if you have failed in any of your attempts to complete an activity and you thoughts are in such a way which makes you feel more depressed then they are negative thoughts. Say if you think 'Oh I failed! I could not do it! How impotent I am' all these will add on to your failure and will never allow you to try again and succeed. Instead if you start thinking 'these are my new experience and learning that will help me in succeeding in the next attempt. I can do it!' then you will be a winner always!

When we keep reinforcing positive thoughts over the negative ones, we will soon realise that our negative thoughts are gradually getting vanished and we are in control of our thoughts, in turn our emotions. This will surely lead to a happy and peaceful life.

Motivational Speaking - You Will Be Inspired by It

We live in busy times where we have no time for ourselves. Today, depression and tension go hand in hand with our daily lives. Many people are greatly surrounded by depression. We need some booster to help us move up in life. Motivation is providing enthusiasm. Motivational speakers are inspirational both to the one who is the speaker as well as to the listener. Motivation can uplift any depressed soul. In such circumstances we need someone to lift us up and get us motivated to return to a normal healthy life.

Listening to motivational speeches can steer our lives towards positive thinking and towards changing our lives positively. Many today take it up as a career and try to help other people to get motivated and move out of their depressed lives.

To take up motivational speaking, a person has to be really dedicated towards their career and need to aim at improving lives of people positively. Such speakers need to have the ability to improve people's lives. Motivational speakers set up workshops and seminars on particular topics or subject. Motivational speakers are in great demand in this tech world today as the world is continuously in need of emotional support.

The Role of Motivational Speakers in Business

People in business are driven by pressure and need constant motivation and support. Motivational speakers provide great impetus to business people and many others to keep cool under pressure and remain driven in their place of work. Therefore, motivational speakers contribute greatly in business. Such business people can do their work well if they are balanced and out of depression and tension. They can thus become more productive and cooperative with their work.

Motivational speakers can assist every class of person in the society. Being emotionally motivated allows people to be more focused on their work. People need motivation not because they are unable to perform effectively but because people are not adept at carrying the load of pressure and demand of their jobs. Constant work pressure and load can deplete a person's resources to remain focused and motivated. That is why motivation is so important to allow people to remain focused on the job in hand and to take charge in life. It is generally seen among many business houses, where they hire motivational speakers on a regular basis, to keep their staff and personnel focused and emotionally motivated.

Motivational speaking is the work of experts who know their job and know what needs to be done. Experts can convey the message easily on any topic. Since motivational speaking is a blurred and multifaceted subject, experts are really needed. Many companies today are deeply involved with the topic of motivational speaking in their place of work. Constant motivational speaking and motivation can help peers to cope with their work pressure.

According to the new age business management, managers and executives new with the company are given special training to provide an insight into human nature. Since such managers and executives are well versed with the human psyche they are able to give out the best in their place of work through motivational speaking

Motivational speakers have the ability to challenge your thinking and let you arrive at a different and positive platform of life. Where the need arises motivational speaking can be personalized. If a person is not able to cope with the problems of his life and solve his own lives queries he can turn to motivational speakers to help them personally. Such speaking has changed many people's lives.

A motivational speaker can prove to be a management tool to improve their place of work or work environment in a better way. Motivational speakers can really transform people's personal as well as professional life. It is imperative that we know how we react to people around us and vice versa and the effect of motivational speakers in our lives and attitude.

A good motivational speaker needs to have good presentation skills. They can convey their messages correctly and directly. Such people can provide incentives to people to remain in their work place for long. They need to have the ability to speak on any subject and therefore need to have the right amount of experience and skill. They need to be trained in such a way that they are able to talk on any topic.

Many managers are doing extremely well. But what makes them feel that they have achieved success? This is a query in the minds of most people and this is needed to be answered. Motivational speakers have the stories to give out of such successful managers. Motivational speakers can stop employees from leaving their jobs. This can help the company to retain its good and experienced work force. Motivational speakers provide and help people and give them the right direction to succeed.

Motivational speaking has made a tremendous impact on our lives in many ways. Therefore, we need to respect their contribution to society. It is regarded as a profession that has its features as being able to understand people, their way of thinking and changing their attitude in life. Therefore, motivational speakers have to be themselves very motivated people that have a high amount of energy aura to influence and steer people in the right direction.

Christianity Saved My Life

Non Physical Conscious Awareness

Human Consciousness can be measured with an Electro-Encephalograph (EEG) machine. What we do not see is the non-physical aspects in the Aura of the person - the electromagnetic field of energy that surrounds the Human Body.

The Human Aura is multi-dimensional; it is not just a shell-like field of energy which is like an egg around the body. It has different layers, which correspond to the different layers of the physical body: the Whole Body, Organs, Cells, Molecules, Atoms, Finer Particles, Light Body and Core Being or Vacuum.

As well as these layers we have the Energy Centres - Chakras - coming out like cones. As the colours of these cones merge with each other we see different colours of light being formed to give us a point in the Aura of each shade and hue.

You can watch the Aura having different shades of points of light, acting like radio tuners receiving similar frequencies from our environment; the Human Body can tune into all frequencies at the same time and we can interpret these with our emotions and feelings.

When we smile we can feel the energy in our cheeks extending out from our body like angel's wings or like a magnetic field; this is created within the body, as would happen in a bar magnet. The field of energy which our physical body creates extends out into the non-physical Aura and beyond, like the force field surrounding a magnet.

Our body is sensing the astrological influences from the planets, as we exist in the Earth's Magnetic Field. All these different electromagnetic levels of energy and force have an influence on our consciousness and our thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

We notice how we feel happier on a bright, sunny day than we do when dark storm clouds are over us.

We live in an invisible field of Electromagnetic Energy which covers the full spectrum: Gamma Rays, X-Rays, Ultraviolet, Visible Light, Infra-red, Radio Frequencies, etc. We are connected as One with this field of Energy and it is part of our Conscious Awareness.

As well as this natural electromagnetic field from our solar system, we are also influenced by the electromagnetic smog of mobile phones, TV and radio and all the other methods of man-made communication using this underlying field of energy in which we live.

Human consciousness can use the underlying electromagnetic field to send messages telepathically, and to get premonitions and dj-vu insights.

The Universe uses this field of Power and Force in an effortless way, to bring about synchronicities in our life; our vibration draws to us the things which are patterned in our being; something magical seeks us out and happens in our life.

As more humans become aware of this non-physical electromagnetic field of energy, it grows stronger and the synchronicities happen more often. The accident rate is declining as everything acts as part of the whole and moves in a frictionless flow of life in Conscious Awareness.

Adjusting Christianity As the World Changes - Christian Ideas

Most people seem to go through life doing what others do and never seem to question much about whether the people around them are actually right or wrong. How many of us do exactly what our parents, grandparents and great grandparents do? I was raised a Christian by Christians and they were raised Christians by other Christians and so on. I don't know when or who in my family tree actually decided to become part of the Christian faith. I don't think it really matters today.

Someone had to of made the decision and I will probably never know. I do know this, I have followed Christianity as far as I possibly could and the next step in my life is going to be based somehow on a more spiritually universal world. I can't seem to follow something, that doesn't make sense to me, anymore. Christianity is more or less a religion that people throughout history have made adjustments to, whenever they felt necessary.

This is often like changing a tire on a car as it starts to wear or goes flat. In order for the car to operate and run smoothly we will need to pay a little attention to it, this will require maintenance over time as the car begins to have problems. We have to solve these problems or our car will become useless and will need to be sent to the junkyard.

Religions throughout history have done the same, as the people become more intelligent and less dependent, they need to create new things and make adjustments. If they don't make these adjustments over time, the religion will no longer be necessary and be sent to the junk heap of time. This is what happened to the Greek and Roman gods, what makes you think, that your God or gods will stand the test of time.

Do you think there's going to be any more adjustments to Christianity in the future? It seems like the last adjustments were Scientology and the Mormons or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. These religions don't exactly follow what Paul started in the Roman Catholic Church. What will the next adjustment be and why will it be necessary?

If you choose to follow Christianity, how do you know which church is right, I mean their core beliefs are right, aren't they. To love your neighbor and be compassionate. To show kindness towards others and help the needy. Do you think that we're going to have to adjust this one day and start treating certain religious followers, whose skin color is deference or speaks a different language with cruelty. I wonder what the next adjustment in Christianity is going to be.

Can You Tell the Difference Between Evil Profits and Good Profits?

I was reading through an article the other day about the Wiccan religion and they were very upset about a comment that the Christian website owner had made. I would like you to read the response from the Christians first.

"I was watching a police show on television some time ago, and saw a sting operation in which undercover police officers bought drugs from dealers on the street. Invariably, some of the dealers would ask, "You a cop?" The officer would say "no," and the deal was made. Satan often goes undercover. The Bible tells us that he can even masquerade as an angel of light. Just because a certain religion professes no belief in Satan, does not mean its adherents are not falling for his lies. It just means that they're unaware that they are. You said God would be disgusted by our judgmentalism. God has told us in His Word (The Bible) to watch for false prophets and false apostles. God has told us to contend for the faith. He has told us to evangelize. In other words, God has told us to do just what we are doing."

Here's something I would like you to think about if you consider yourself a Christian, read this very carefully.

"God has told us in his Word the Bible to watch for false prophets and false apostles." I would like you to read this statement a couple of times and see if you agree with it. How can you possibly tell who the false prophets are? Do you think that because you are a Christian and believe in Jesus or God, that you will know the difference between a evil profit and a godly one?

I often write articles and have written quite a few of them about religion and Christianity. Seems to be the one that I know the most about, so it gets the most attention from me. If I was to make a statement like the Bible has contradictions in it, would you consider me an evil profit. Someone working for the Devil. I don't think so, because it doesn't make sense, how could you turn a truth full statement into evil prophesies.

If I was to introduce you to a hundred people, could you tell me by looking at them or talking to them, which ones are evil and which ones are good. Most Christians would probably respond to that with, God knows and that's good enough for me. Everyone else who talks bad about Christianity will be considered evil or searching for the truth. They just haven't found Jesus yet, is that right, is that what you believe.

I found this response to the Wiccan believer to be one that I run into often. It seems unfair to others who aren't Christians and one-sided. Most organized religions have answers for everything, the problem is that some of the times these answers don't make any sense at all. If you're going to follow this part of the Bible word for word, shouldn't you follow all of the Bible word for word.

Leviticus 14:9 On the seventh day he must shave off all his hair; he must shave his head, his beard, his eyebrows and the rest of his hair. He must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water, and he will be clean.

Leviticus 19:27 " 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

This will make Christians easier to spot, a bald head with long beards.

Personal Development Products

I was thinking of making a list of the top 10 books have helped me in the past with my personal development and I have had some requests from different people asking what books are great reads. I will also include a short description of why I found it useful and also make some audio tape suggestions.

Ok so the first of the personal development products I found amazing was Napoleon Hill's Classic, Think and Grow Rich. This book is an amazing foundation to anyone who wishes to embark on the route of personal development and mental development. The second book is The magic of thinking BIG - By Dr. David Schwartz. This is one of the best books over all to teach you everything you need to know about being a big thinker. It teaches leadership, motivation, communication and overall success. A MUST BUY.

Another Excellent book in the personal development and mental development area is the prosperity books by Randy Gage. The 5 books are as follows:

  • Accept your abundance
  • Prosperity Mind
  • 101 Keys to Prosperity
  • 37 Secrets to Prosperity
  • 7 Spiritual laws of prosperity

These all taught me how to be prosperous which is great because we all want to be.

The next book I learned a lot from was How to Win Friends and Influence people by Dale Carnegie. This book really teaches you how to communicate and become a leader. A very very good book to utilize because it will help you with everything you need to know about people.

The greatest salesman in the world - By Og Mandino. This book will make you committed and teach you all you MUST know about you to make you an overall success in your personal development, and mental development.

A great ebook that I will recommend that is very recent is a book called The funded Proposal - By Daegan Smith and James Grandstaff, this is an ebook that teaches people how to get a quick return on their money and how to do it properly.

Audio books I will always recommend is anything by Jim Rohn, Johnny Wimbrey, Les Brown and Zig Ziglar, these four teachers will guide you through your emotional, motivational and personal development because they have mastered each subject. A Mirthful Spirit by Mary Huntley & Edna Thayer - Book Review

Beaver's Pond Press (2007)
ISBN 9781592981656

"A Mirthful Spirit" uses stories, research, quotes, poetry, tips and suggestions by two scholars in the field of mirth and laughter. More than a guidebook for embracing mirth and laughter, "A Mirthful Spirit" provides guidelines for incorporating humor in the workplace, hospitals, and schools to improve productivity, wellness, and creativity.

One of the best things about laughter is that it is contagious. By teaching yourself the techniques and tips for living a mirthful life, one of the biggest benefits is that you will soon find yourself surrounded by people dispersing the joys of living with a mirthful spirit.

From the physical benefits (Initiates Internal Jogging, Thwarts Infections, Alleviates Pain) to mental benefits (Lightens stress, Increases brain-cell functioning), "A Mirthful Spirit" provides a handbook for healthy, happy, humor-filled living.

"A Mirthful Spirit" closes with an intriguing section on the historical and cultural highlights of humor. Even humor has evolved and matured from its beginnings (ridicule) to the healing powers of mirthful living we can access today.

"A Mirthful Spirit: Embracing Laughter for Wellness" is a perfect bedside companion and coffee table book; this is certainly a book to put on your gift lists. Not only will the receiver benefit from the wisdom among its pages, all will benefit from the gift of spreading mirth. Reading "A Mirthful Spirit" will change your outlook on life. Not only will you become happier-everyone will feel your joy and start laughing with you. Huntley and Thayer are firm believers in what one of their heroes, Patch Adams, says, "The most revolutionary act we can commit in the world is to be happy." Go buy a copy of "A Mirthful Spirit" and you too can laugh your way to wellness.

Game Of Life And How To Play

Everything That's Beautiful is Cracked, That's How the Light Gets In

What is beauty anyway?

The answer to that question seems to come at us everyday through magazines like; People, Chatelaine, Men's Health, Vogue, Hello, Esquire, newspapers, television shows like; Extreme Makeover, Entertainment Tonight, The Miss Universe Pageant, Access Hollywood and the advertisements that come with those publications and shows, that purport to know what beauty is. We seem to take for granted that the narrow, superficial societal definition of beauty is essentially related to physical appearance and attraction. But have you really stopped to ponder what beauty is, really?

Leonard Cohen; singer, songwriter, novelist and poet said that "everything that's beautiful is cracked, that's how the light gets in." I do believe he has captured the essence of beauty.

Beauty is in the nature of our flaws. It is in our reflective self-awareness and acceptance of our imperfections that we discover our true beauty. Once we begin to reach that level of maturity and self-esteem, approaching self-actualization, we increasingly behave and even radiate an inner goodness, grace and dignity, which becomes evident to the people around us. Acceptance of ourselves is eventually what leads us to becoming self-actualized. It allows us to transcend our imperfections, highlight and focus on our strengths and forge a life for ourselves and for those who we love in a congruent way with the essence of our being.

To translate; "that's how the light gets in," is meant to mean quite literally becoming "enlightened." When the light shines through the cracks in our outer armor rather than blinding us, it illuminates areas in our lives that we need to bring attention to. Those cracks or flaws are what often keeps us from achieving that level of esteem that all of us desire, whether we are consciously aware of them or not. We can do two things in relation to our imperfections, work to bring about change that will perhaps eliminate or minimize them or just come to accept them as a part of who we are in the world.

So, don't be afraid to let the light shine through the cracks, open up to it, bask in its warmth and glow, work with it to bring harmony to your life, find your true self then share it with the world.
I believe that in spite of the seemingly complex nature of our world today, our true self is actually love reflected. Become a positive force for good, it will make you feel better.

Five Things You Should Know

The Roller Coaster of Life

As Summer winds down, look around. You're still on the roller coaster. Nine months have gone by since you strapped in for this year's ride. Can you look over your shoulder and still see the person who took your ticket and told you to 'keep your hands inside the car at all times'? By this I mean: has your train barely pulled away from the station? Did you begin the year with great intentions and never really make much progress toward them?

Or have you already taken so much action (clicks) toward this year's goals that you have climbed the big hill and are already enjoying the ride?

If so...feels great, doesn't it?

If not, there is still time.

Here are a few action ideas:

1) Dig back to last January and revisit your intended goals for the year
2) Evaluate your progress (or lack thereof) thus far
3) Re-dedicate yourself to TAKING ACTION toward them

One little decision or action, every day, can make all the difference in the world and bring you ever-closer to your desired outcome.

There is no need to be discouraged if you have not yet enjoyed the ride you dreamed of. Expanding beyond one's current comfort-level can be a daunting task, even with the best of intentions. Thinking outside the box can be a challenge. Actually 'living' outside the box can be downright death-defying for some!

The journey starts with just one step. Start small, just nudge your boundaries. Little successes can give you the confidence you need to climb into that roller coaster for a bigger, better ride.

There are 3 months left the year...plenty of time to click, click, click your way up that hill.

Believe me; the view is much better from the top, especially in the moment just before that last click sends you on a wild, exciting rewarding ride!

And once you've ridden this one all the way 'round, you'll want to get back on over and over again.

Manifest Destiny - Is it Possible to Manifest Your Desires With Software?

By focusing on your overall spiritual development, you can begin to realize improvements in your list that you never before imagined. Manifesting your ideas through software technology can help you to achieve a new level of spiritual growth and positive thinking that can help to heal your body, mind and spirit. In order to manifest your desires, it is important to take time out from your daily schedule to focus on your spirituality in order to channel spiritual growth and begin to manifest your goals through your daily actions. Achieving personal healing is increasingly possible with the help of technical software that can translate your internal thoughts into tangible ideas that you can act upon on a daily basis. Software can be a utility that you use to come to better understand and channel your positive thinking into actions.

Often times, it can be difficult to manifest your dreams to achieve the self healing that you want to accomplish. As a result, leading developers have creating software to manifest anything that you want to achieve, so that you can channel your inner desires that may have otherwise been hidden. Leading providers of radionics software can help to channel your inner energy so that you move to positive thinking and shift your focus to helping you manifest your dreams above all. When you are awake, your body works through countless ideas that become part of who you are, but can only be manifest when they are fully identified. While it can be difficult to tap into this fountain of spiritual growth in the context of a busy day, taking time out to manifest these positive ideas is an important element of helping you to achieve a higher level of personal growth. Technology is a core part of our lives, and is increasingly used to help us work and act more efficiently, but, amidst all of this information, many of our internal desires can get lost. You can harness this very same technical potential by using software to manifest your ideas, just as your utilize software to help you manage your daily life.

Many times, you may have ideas and goals, but struggle to truly manifest what you want. Whether you are aiming to manifest your soul mate, wealth or your ultimate destiny, you can realize these goals through advanced technology that can help you to discover meaning that you may not otherwise be attuned with. Powerful software can be used to manifest your subconscious ideas in a way that you can understand and communicate, so that you can begin to visualize the ideas that can improve your life. The reality is that you know the solutions to many of the issues affecting you, and the real goal is to help manifest those realities by learning how to communicate the ideas effectively. For many people, it can be difficult to manifest meaning from what you really want to achieve, which is why software that can help you to manifest and identify your spiritual thoughts is so beneficial to helping you achieve your long term goals.

Who Would Take an Online Yoga Instructors Course and Certification Program?

Experienced Yoga practitioners make up the largest number of graduates, who pursue Yoga instructor certification online. Some of these Yoga teacher interns have decades of experience. This is followed by Yoga instructors who have been teaching Yoga for years, but who do not have a Yoga instructor certification.

How is it possible for someone not to have certification, and still be a teacher, training his, or her, students in Yoga? Until recently, many traditional Yoga teachers did not have a formal certification, or diploma, to hang on the wall.

Independent study requires a lot of discipline to follow assignments through. A Hatha Yoga certification home study course is not something a novice would pick up and easily grasp. The many aspects of mantras, chakras, mudras, bandhas, doshas, Yamas, and Niyamas, without a foundation of Yoga practice, would be difficult for a beginner to understand without guidance.

Therefore, aspiring Yoga instructors, who choose an online Yoga instructors course and certification program, are, most often, self starters. Many people who take courses for Yoga certification online are working moms and dads.

On-site certification programs, which enable a person to start teaching Yoga, may require that person to be away from their family for weeks, months, or years. Some countries have very little Yoga instruction at all. Certification, through online Yoga teacher training courses, can also be a very attractive option for International students.

Recently, I was talking with a Yoga teacher, who explained to me that the nearest Yoga teaching certification, in Ontario, is more than four hours away. Her round trip would be more than eight hours of driving. This commute made a Yoga certification home study course her best option.

Some aspiring Yoga students have the goal of certification as an instructor of Yoga - but at what price? Keeping a family together and raising children responsibly are priorities in life.

Many companies will not understand, if an employee announced to management, that he or she was leaving for an extended period of time to pursue Yoga teacher training certification programs in San Francisco. Unless you already live in the Bay area, holding down a job, and participating in Yoga teacher training certification programs, in San Francisco, may not be an option.

There are many options for Yoga instructors training courses and certification programs, but the best Yoga certification program is the one that fits your lifestyle. Teaching Yoga is a rewarding past time, but sacrificing your marriage, family, and career, is not good for your well being.

Yoga teachers are like everyone else; they do not live a one dimensional life. You do not have to give up your identity in order to become a certified Yoga instructor.

The Secret to Maintaining Employee Motivation

Some people are motivated by money or materialistic things, but in my experience this form of motivation usually only lasts a short time. Once the individual has become accustomed to their pay rise or the company car, they have now set a new comfort zone for themselves. However, if working conditions or poor management skills from immediate bosses have not been addressed or improved you will see employee motivation return to where it once was. They will do just enough to keep the bosses happy.

I was once asked by the CEO of a company what he could do to motivate his staff. I explained that not one motivational technique will work for everyone. Everybody is motivated by different things and in different ways. After interviewing each individual member of his staff, I discovered that there was an overriding feeling that they were not appreciated by the company or their immediate bosses.

Have you ever caught yourself or had this said to you, "You'd better do that or else!" "You better tidy your room or else!" "That report had better be on my desk in the morning or else!" These threats get us into a 'have to' motivation mode and we will do just enough to get the person threatening us off our back. No more and no less.

In a work environment if you are told 'do it or else!' You will only do enough to get your boss off your back and not an inch more. This is no way to inspire people. This is also called fear motivation. You never get the most out of people if you try and motivate them by fear. People will only do enough to quell the threat.

For the managers and supervisors out there, I am going to give you the secret to employee motivation and it doesn't mean providing child minding facilities or giving everyone a gym membership or a yearly flu injection. It is so simple and costs absolutely nothing. Are you ready? Here it is..

Simple acts that genuinely and sincerely recognise individuals for their effort and contribution to the company will motivate people.

I know, it seems so simple - but it works and you would be amazed at the results achieved by doing this. It's only natural to seek acknowledgment for a job well done. Often staff will work harder and continue a high level of work output if they know that their efforts are genuinely acknowledged and appreciated. Just a simple and genuine 'thankyou' can go along way.

It's important to note that these simple acts of recognising individuals for their efforts must be done genuinely and sincerely. If they are used too often they can come across as insincere and will have a negative effect.

To get people achieving and working towards their goals, positive motivation is needed not fear motivation.

About That Dream...

About that Dream...

Remember your very first job? That all-grown-up feeling! Your own money to buy things... That feeling of independence!

Do you still have that excitement today? Do you jump out of bed, eager to start a new day? Or are you tired, even slightly depressed?

Perhaps you've lost touch with your own special *dream* over the years. What was your dream? Have you thought about it lately? Acknowledging your dream can free you up to remove the obstacles...

Those Nasty Obstacles

What's keeping you from your dream? Start a small list of things you consider obstacles in your way. Are they *Time,* *Energy,* *Money?* Is your life just too stressful? Brainstorm some solutions and write them in the column next to the obstacles.

Each of the above were obstacles for me. We were about $14,000 in debt (credit cards and school loans). I was working 40-60 hours a week -- just to pay the bills. I was using my energy to work for *things, * leaving none for pursuing my dream.

The Negotiation

If you could trade something for your dream, what would it be? If you wanted it so badly you could taste it -- how could you make it happen?

I wanted to work part time and pursue my writing. I negotiated with myself. If I could learn to live on 20 hours pay per week, I could go part time. Two and a half years later, we were debt free with a small nest egg. Our spending was minimal. I had finished the first draft of my book a year earlier. I moved to part time, evening hours, and my new job was now 3 miles from home. My immediate goal of part time had spurred me on.

What could you negotiate with yourself today - to pull your dream a little bit closer? How about making a small deal with yourself? If I (fill in the blank), then I could (fill in the blank). Who better to negotiate with?

Which Way to Easy Street?

There is no Easy Street (at least not on my road map). But there is that road less traveled... with a few obstacles along the way. My husband lost two jobs soon after I made major changes in my life, the first just months later. It wasn't easy, but I had Plan B ready to go.

What's the worst thing that could happen if you take a different path? Beneath your obstacle list from above, jot down the worst things that might happen. In the column next to them, jot down some ideas for a Plan B of your own.

What's Keeping You?

***Time*** Instead of working more hours away from home for 'extra money', could you invest your time in planning and saving for your dream? Do your current activities move you closer to doing what you'd love to do?

***Energy*** Short on energy? Try blowing the dust off your dream. You'll be amazed at the renewed energy you'll have! Eliminate energy wasters -- things that don't move you forward.

***Money*** What spending can you 'exchange' if it means finally living your dream? Money I spent weekly buying books is now funneled back into my dream. Trade your current spending for your dream. You'll be wonderfully surprised at how much money you'll *find* for your dream!

Positive Attitude Tips to Help You Create the Life of Your Dreams

A positive attitude is something that we are not born with.

Our parents play a big role in our outlook on life, as they are the primary teachers of how we relate to the situations around us. It wasn't until I was fortunate enough to be introduced to The Law of Attraction that I realized how important a positive attitude is in attracting into our lives the things that we desire.

In order to successfully develop and maintain a positive outlook you can't let negativity enter your thoughts throughout the course of the day, which will definitely be challenging in the beginning. You will be exhausted for the first couple of weeks and however it then becomes second nature.

You become more aware of what others are saying and you pick up on the negativity that they are projecting. After about a month I found that I did not want to associate with these people because I felt they were bringing me down. My really close friends I found that I would show them how to turn that negative into a positive.

For every negative there is a positive. Only when you actively seek to impact others in a positive and engaging way, will you find that those surrounding you will respond to you in similar fashion.

You do not speak ill of people and not join in petty gossiping, as you will realize it is a waste of your positive energy. P.M.A. or positive mental attitude is important as it means you radiate only positive vibrations , or energies into the universe , this means , of course that the universe will reward you by reciprocating this positive energy.

This is when your life will change dramatically, you will start to attract into your life that dream job, that new car, that fabulous house. People are often surprised at changes they are able to make by keeping a positive attitude.

If you are actively seeking to turn your thought patterns around, you will be able to morph the negative thinking into positive, and the more you concentrate on doing this, the more frequently you will find you are on the right track.

When I have a situation arise that is not what I would have liked I say to myself "who is to say if it is good or it is bad," sure enough down the track something will happen that will show me that it was a positive not a negative.

Why not challenge yourself first thing in the morning by thinking "I will think only positively this entire day". Although difficult, with practice you can do it daily, and your life will improve significantly.

Take the challenge for yourself and the people around you.

My wish is that everyone live the life of theirs dreams, that is why I created http://www.sassywomeninspired.com It is our birthright to have wealth and abundance, there is enough to go around. We want to show you how to attract things into your life. You can have anything you want once you learn the secrets of how the universe works on vibrational energy. A positive attitude is the beginning of a new life.

Peace Of Mind At The Workplace

Work brings together people of different characters and behavior, and this often causes friction, resentment and stress. Sometimes the boss is too demanding, colleagues may be unpleasant, there might be too much work or the working conditions may not be comfortable. The job may be boring, there might be competition or envy between the workers or the customers may be uncongenial or unfriendly. No wonder there is tension and stress.

These are some of the reasons why most people eagerly wait for their vacation. Their vacation provides them a way to get out of their daily life and find some peace. The good news is that you do not have to wait for your vacation. You can learn to gain inner peace and enjoy every moment, right where you are. You can stop fretting and getting tense. You can experience peace of mind and happiness wherever you are. When your mind is peaceful, the whole environment become peaceful.

Now you probably wonder what you can do to make this come true. I am not going to talk here about meditation, though this is one of the best peace of mind tools. Below you will find some simple and easy to perform tips and suggestions to experience inner peace at your workplace.

You may not succeed at the first attempts, but if you keep on performing these suggestions earnestly, you will gradually begin to experience peace of mind. This peace will not only by inside you. It will spill over and influence your whole environment.

1) If the people you meet talk in a loud voice, are impolite and tense, you will probably react and behave accordingly, hereby raising the level of tension. On the other hand, if you stay calm, talk, act and react peacefully, people unconsciously emulate your behavior. You become a leading power, no matter what is your position at work.

2) Each day before you enter your workplace, repeat several times the following affirmation:

"My mind is peaceful throughout the whole day. I radiate peace around me. I talk peacefully, politely and with a smile. I choose to act peacefully.

Say the affirmation with attention, faith and emotion.

3) Greet the people you meet at work.

4) Whenever you feel tension or anger building in you, take three deep slow breathes before any talking or action.

5) Become conscious of the words you think, say or write. Use only positive words.

6) Be polite.

7) Whenever you find yourself raising your voice, immediately lower it.

8) Talk in a medium pitch voice, not too loud or too low, and dont let the loudness or pitch of other peoples voices influence yours.

9) Several times during your workday find a quiet place. It may be at your desk, or if it is not quiet enough there, it can be at the bathroom, an empty room or some other quiet spot. For several moments visualize a beautiful location that you love or some event that made you happy. Feel that you are there and enjoy the feelings that arise.

10) While working, concentrate on what you are doing. Put there your full attention. This will keep your mind off disturbing thoughts.

11) Dont waste your time and energy analyzing and thinking about peoples motives and behavior, but rather try to improve your actions.

12) Before speaking with someone whom you dislike or fear, or someone who makes you feel tense or angry, take a few deep breathes and visualize the two of you conversing peacefully and harmoniously.

Simple Tips For the Law of Attraction

Here I have compiled some simple tips to help you to get started with using the law of attraction in your life. No matter what, the law of attraction is working. However, you can use the law of attraction to work to your benefit if you know how to do this. And when you do, you can begin to experience the life that you have been dreaming of.

Tip Number 1: The law of attraction will only work the way that you want to if you believe in yourself and your own capabilities to attract the life that you want to. If you believe that it will not work for you and that you are not capable of achieving more in your life, then that is the experience you will manifest.

Tip Number 2: The law of attraction will not work unless you take action. There is a whole list of things that you can do to enhance your ability to attract what you want, like visualizations and affirmations. But, without you taking action, you will not receive what you want. The opportunity may present itself, but you have to be willing to take it.

Tip Number 3: The average person will not attract the life that they want. You do not have to fall into this category though. You can be among the ones who do experience what they want out of life. Start by thinking outside of the box. 95 percent of the population will never be financially free. Do not follow the crowd. Otherwise, you will attract the same results as everyone else.

Attract the life that you want. Believe you can and go against the grain and do what really works instead of what everyone else does!

Good Grief

If tears are an indication of how special my relationship with my mother was, I cry with pride! I've come to see grief as pain with a purpose. Interestingly enough, as I cared for my mother in my home the last several weeks of her life, much of what I had learned through spiritual teachings about death had gone out the window. It seemed as though I were losing her forever! At times, I wallowed in sadness and self-pity.

Living life in slow motion, I gazed off into my own inner space, sobbed, and occasionally argued with that part of my mind that did not want my mother to go. Even what I had learned about self-care was not accessible to me since I seemed to exist 'in a fog.' I wasn't getting enough sleep and I felt scared and alone; but not for long!

I finally came to rest on the spiritual foundation that has carried me this far in life. What a respite those teachings became as I was able to see my grief as a journey of spiritual unfoldment. Grief is a normal and natural reaction to loss yet our society seems to hurry along the feelings around transitions that take time to heal. We grieve what could have been and what we feel 'should' have been, along with not being able to see our loved one again, on Earth anyway!

The grief that I felt was really just me focusing on the idea that her life was ending. Using Spiritual principles, I was able to then focus on the truth, which is that Spirit, which is who we really are, is eternal! She too, would live on...

I feel like a large part of me died along with my mother. Maybe it was a part of me that was ready to be put at rest. Her death has created a void in me that I can choose to fill as I'd like. As I open up even more to greater spiritual understanding, I am learning to trust the whole process of life, including death.

I have come to see this "mourning after" as a time to heal, to heal unprocessed sadness in my life, including disappointments from relationships, jobs ending sooner than I would have liked, losing beloved pets, and moving from town to town as I grew up. There are opportunities inherent in life's changes that are a gateway to greater personal and spiritual growth. The dynamics of change can be stepping stones to open up to the fullness of God's love.

I received a card from a friend that said, "When the sea recedes, many treasures and gifts appear that otherwise never would have been noticed." From a metaphysical or symbolic perspective, I can look at my mother's death as being the sea receding. Her death, part of the natural ebb and flow of life, brought me many gifts.

Grieving the loss of my mother involved surrender. There came a point where I had to let go and let God, and what a blessing that was! I gradually remembered all that I had been taught around eternal life and the truth that she reemerged into pure positive energy as she "went home" to God. Another gift I was reminded of when, through "coincidence" I ended up in the office of a wonderful spiritual therapist, is that we are always being guided and we are never alone. Perhaps my grief is just God's love washing over me. I can't seem to get away from God's goodness!

It is her death that inspires me to move forward and get clear about what I would like to experience in the next stage of my life. Similar to her spiritual ascension, I feel that I am reemerging into the rest of my life with a more grounded belief in the idea that the Loving Intelligence that created us and all of life is ever present, guiding and directing our ways.

God, you are the love that washes away what no longer serves me. During this time of grief, I ask that you wash away any limiting belief I have that would hold me back.

Overcoming Limited Beliefs

The Inception of Ordained Interfaith and Independent Ministers

The role of the spiritual leader (minister, pastor, rabbi or cleric) is evolving. Evolution is, by nature, a slow process, and the neighborhood religious community is still an active and contributing source of safety, support, spiritual guidance, belief and cohesion. Local ministers, pastors, rabbi and other cleric work to meet the needs of their congregations

However, as the world shrinks and cultures and races merge, the traditional representative of the church, mosque or synagogue may find it difficult to accommodate the needs of a changing population. Bound by dogma and religious law, they are often prohibited to minister to those in need of interracial, interfaith or intercultural services. In evolutionary terms, this leaves a void and creates a need for an interfaith or independent approach to religion and spirituality.

This void is becoming more and more evident as traditional churches continue to loose a large number of their members. An example can be found in the Protestant religion. In April and May of 2007, LifeWay Research performed a survey of 1,023 Protestants and found that 70% of Protestants between the ages of 23 to 30 dropped out of Church (margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points). Among other reasons, dropouts claimed they left the church because they needed a break, did not feel connected, found church members judgmental or hypocritical, were too busy with college, work or other friends outside of the church or disagreed with the political agenda of the church.

Various methods continue to develop in attempts to fill the need for interfaith and independent spiritual services. Its not surprising that the online ordained minister has become popular. Becoming an interfaith or independent minister can be accomplished by performing a simple Google search. Numerous organizations and churches now offer online and instant ordinations. Some offer education, training and study in the comparative religions with a residency requirement and a formal ordination upon completion. Some offer instant ordination with support, training and education available to those who choose to use it. These ordained ministers cater to the needs of the non-churchgoers who still get married, have children, become sick, loose loved ones through death and need spiritual counseling on a variety of life issues.

The role of the modern day minister is slowly changing. Independent, nondenominational and interfaith ministers are free from many of the restrictions placed upon the more traditional minister and as such can reach out to those in need of interfaith, intercultural, or interracial spiritual services.

Interestingly, the word "nonjudgmental" can be threatening to the devout religious believer in spite of the fact that each great spiritual text teaches unconditional love and nonjudgment as part of its major components. The Golden Rule, for example, can be found in the texts of all the world's great religions:

"One should always treat others as they themselves wish to be treated." Hinduism, from the Hitopadesa (3200 BC) "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." Judaism, Leviticus 19:18 (1300 BC) "Hurt not others with that which pains yourself." Buddhism, Udanavarga (560BC) "What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others." Confucianism, Analects (557 BC) "No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself." Islam, Koran (620AD) "Regard your neighbor's gain as your gain and your neighbor's loss as your loss." Taoist, Tai-shang, Kang-ying P'ien (500 BC) "Whatsoever ye would that others should do to you, do ye even so to them." Christianity, 7:12 - King James Version (30 AD)

An important question to consider regarding interfaith and independent ministers is, are they legitimate? According to dictionary.com, legitimate means:

1. according to law; lawful

If we look at the wording of the first amendment, ("Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...") then any ordained independent or interfaith minister must be legitimate as well as the more traditional clergy members. Yet, many states place restrictions upon what legitimizes a minister, as when it comes to solemnizing marriages. In Virginia, the laws regarding who can officiate at a wedding are complex. To register, you must appear in person in Arlington County and show your Certificate of Ordination, a picture ID, and pay a $16.00 fee. The county clerk will inquire as to the status of your organization with the IRS. Legally, churches or spiritual organizations are not required to obtain a 501(c)3 status, but many desire a tax-exempt status in order to save tax dollars. The IRS definition only applies to those organizations that are seeking a tax-exempt status. Does that mean that all other spiritual and religious organizations that pay taxes are not legitimate? Or, has the first amendment been overlooked in this instance? Concerns about the integrity and legitimacy of clerics seems valid. Clergy, as a whole, receive respect and admiration by the very nature of their calling and are often viewed as trusted mentors, teachers, role models and faithful leaders. Can the grass roots interfaith and independent ministry movement stand up to such expectations? Can they be trusted? Yet, the question begs-can traditionally ordained clergy be trusted as well. When a Google search for interfaith minister and abuse is performed, the searcher finds the first page filled with links to sites that claim to care for the abused or to help those abusing drugs, etc. When a Google search for Catholic priest and abuse is performed, the entire first page is filled with links to pages about the recent scandal where priests sexually abused children. It seems reasonable to conclude, then, that a cleric as a member of an established world religion does not, by itself, demonstrate trustworthiness. Similarly, interfaith and independent ministries have little history upon which to base a qualified answer to these important questions.

Religions, by their very nature, profess a right/wrong philosophy through creed and dogma. Yet, each religion debates the correct meaning and resultant rules and dogma that establish their clear definition of what is right and what is wrong. Disagreements on interpretations abound. Indeed, current events attest to the tragic world events rooted in religious disagreements (September 11, the Arab-Israeli conflicts, and our current state of affairs).

"When Religion Turns Evil" by Baptist Minister Dr. Charles Kimball, (2003) defines five signs of corruption in religions. They are: absolute truth claims, blind obedience, establishing the "ideal" time, the end justifies any means, and declaring holy war." These attributes can be found in the Nazis, the Crusades and in the cults of Jim Jones and David Koresh.

Self-righteousness, then, is present as a common trait found in the actions of the Nazis, the Crusaders and both the Jones and Koresh cults. When power and the need to be right invade religion, there is no place for the Golden Rule. The world would benefit if all spiritual and religious organizations would take heed of the warning offered in Matthew 23:27-28:

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness."

It seems then that the major qualifications necessary for someone to become a legitimate cleric (either an independent clergy or a cleric with a major religion) and minister to the spiritual needs of others would be twofold: a deep desire to live a life free from self-righteous tendencies, and a life dedicated to the practice of the Golden Rule. The basic concept of love that is found in all of the great texts would then be practiced, promoting tolerance, understanding, compassion and peace.

Starting With Simple Things

Sympathy For the Devil

One of the top ten common misconceptions about religion and spirituality is the concept of the Devil. Who is Satan and what is his purpose? Where does the concept come from?

We all sense a craving towards spirituality and meaning, and at the same time we share a desire to do the wrong thing, kill and steal, to insult and eat fatty foods. We intuitively know there is a dichotomy in the world and in ourselves. Did you ever feel like smacking someone even though you knew in your heart it was wrong? (Those of you with teenage children need not even answer that one.)

Flip Wilson used to say "The Devil made me do it." Of course the Devil can't make you do something but he can sure tempt you. Life's circumstances can be tempting from the outside, and we can have desires on the inside. Is that the Devil or your own bad self?

In kabbalah the forces of desire, evil inclination, temptations to stray from morality and spirituality all seem to be one. The three main entities that we find in the texts are Satan, the "evil inclination", and the Angel of Death, and all represent the same united force.

The Meaning of Life

If you understand well the meaning of life, you have no problem understanding Satan and the "evil inclination", known as the "yaitzer hara". We are put on this earth at this time to struggle to connect to the Infinite Being. In order to have an arena of challenge, we must have a desire to go away from God to fight against.

The Satan and yaitzer hara provide the challenge. This force is designed by God and follows strict rules He placed into the spiritual realm. Satan cannot go against God's will, as an angel or spiritual force, he operates like a puppet of the Almighty, providing the exact spiritual challenges that we need at any given moment in time.

In fact, each and every person is judged based on their own set of circumstances external and internal, which makes it impossible to judge your fellow man because you don't know their history or internal make-up. Maybe they are naturally a born murderer and hot-head and they have worked hard to control themselves and become just an average rude person. You may think this guy is a big jerk but in reality they are extremely righteous given their challenges. Another person much more pleasant to be with my have been born with a gentle demeanor and has never struggled to make him/herself any better.

To put it a different way, you are put here to make spiritual touchdowns and the Satan is like a linebacker paid to block your path. But the linebacker is purposely designed in a way that you always have the ability to make your way past him. You might not be able to bowl him over; you might have to outsmart him, tell him his shoes untied, fake to the left and go to the right, or some other maneuver. If he stops you, then your job is to review the tape and see how you can avoid him the next time. (The verb "leSatan" means to block and is used in Numbers 22:22 this way. An angel blocks the path of Bilaam when he goes to meet with Balak to curse the nation of Israel.)

The Big Mistake

So the existence of Satan is real and part of daily life. The mistake then is that people think Satan has a separate existence, power, and purpose than God. Many think Satan is somehow avoiding God's domain and tempting people to sin when God's not looking. This is not only wrong, but philosophically impossible. Nothing can happen without God's will accepting it on some level. God wants Satan to tempt us and He wants us to withstand the temptation. He designs the challenges according to our spiritual level and need for growth. If we need to develop patience, God sends Satan to test our patience.

Satan does nothing without God's approval. He's a servant of God. This is clear from the beginning of the Book of Job that starts with God and Satan having a conversation where God says Job's a great guy, and Satan says Job is only righteous because he hasn't been tested with suffering. Let him suffer and he'll turn against the Lord. God says, ok then go and test him. While this type of conversation may be more metaphor than reality, it shows the basic relationship between God and Satan. The Almighty designed a spiritual universe with angels that help and angels that test. There are prosecuting attorneys, so to speak, and defending attorneys. Satan is the primary prosecuting angel.

We don't hate Satan, and he doesn't hate us. He was created to test us, which is our greatest opportunity to accomplish spiritual greatness and closeness to God.
